Thin-section photomicrograph of a quartz-rich sandstone. Quartz sand grains are pale colored and the blue is dyed epoxy in pore space. Brown material is fine cement crystals and clay minerals that partially fill pore spaces and pore throats (narrow spaces between grains). Some of the quartz grains exhibit quartz cement rims. Sand grains are about 0.150 mm in diameter.
