3. Probation Department Dinner

Probation Scenario:
You have just completed an internship with the Probation Department. You are handed a posting for a paid position as an Assistant Probation Officer (APO). You loved your probation experience, and you really want this job. The thought of helping probationers become contributing members of society and getting paid to do it is a “dream come true.” You are approached by Gene, a senior probation officer who advises you: “I want to help you get the job.” Gene also tells you that the “walls have ears, and we better not be heard talking about this at work.” Gene invites you over to his house for dinner. When you arrive, Gene hands you a glass of wine and says: “The economy is so bad, they won't hire another probation officer for years. Someone in your situation is lucky to have a friend like me. Just remember one hand washes the other.”
