Case Studies with Questions and Answers

6. Midnight Shift

Midnight Shift Scenario:
You are having a great internship experience. You are doing so well, you are allowed to work the midnight shift. Around 3AM, on your first ride-along, your field supervisor drives the patrol vehicle into an alley behind a bar. She hands you a $20 bill and tells you “to keep the engine running and not to bother her unless there is an emergency.” She takes her portable radio with her and firmly states: “Do not come into the bar under any circumstances. Call my cell phone if you need me.” You see her enter the bar through the rear door. At around 6:30 AM, you see her exit the bar. She gets in the patrol vehicle. She says nothing about what went on inside the bar and says: “We have just enough time to get back to the station before shift change. Don't tell anyone about this. Let’s keep this between us.”
