The deer’s left metacarpus (A, dorsal view), metatarsus (B, dorsal view), left metatarsus (C, plantar view), and the left metacarpus (D, palmar (volar) view). These metapodia are composed of the fused third and fourth metacarpals and metatarsals. The deer’s metapodia have distinctive concave grooves along the plantar/volar surfaces that distinguish them from the metapodia of the bovids.
