About the author
Stephen Garrett is currently Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at the University of Leicester, UK. He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Birmingham and obtained a PhD from the University of Cambridge before moving to the pensions office of a large actuarial consultancy. Whilst working in the profession, Stephen missed the academic world and took the decision to return in 2006. He accepted a lectureship at Leicester and has since established a number of successful actuarial programmes there at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Stephen continues to enjoy teaching An Introduction to Actuarial Mathematics to an ever-growing audience. Away from teaching, Stephen has a keen interest in fluid mechanics which he developed during his PhD and regularly publishes papers and speaks at international conferences in this area. Outside of work, Stephen can often be found playing toy cars with his two young sons.
