Tutorial Datasets
Within this download, you, the reader, will find a folder for each of the tutorials and case studies. For the Case Studies there will just be a short note in that folder stating that "Data are not available for this case study because of HIPPA and other confidentiality restrictiveness."
For the Tutorials, each tutorial folder will have the dataset used in that tutorial, so that you, the reader, can download that dataset and follow and do yourself all the steps of the tutorial. Many of the datasets have a "(name).sta" ending; a ".sta" ending means a Dell Statisitca format dataset. Some of the datasets are in Excel, some are in SAS format, and some are in R-Rattle format; and one or two may even be in ".txt" format. All of these formats can be converted to a ".sta" format in the Dell Statistica software just by using File→Open in Statistica, in case you prefer to use them this way. The ".sta" Statistica datasets will only open after you have downloaded and installed Dell Statistica.
A few of the tutorials will also have a "results workbook" saved in that tutorial's folder; this workbook will open in Dell Statistica after you download and install Statistica on your computer.
A trial copy of Dell Statistica is available for readers of this book. (Any of the ".sta" Statistica datasets can be converted in the Statistica software to other formats, from .txt, to SAS, to Excel, etc., in case you need to work in a different software.)
The tutorials that use R-Rattle have explanations telling you, the reader, how to download this freeware and use it. SAS is not available as a free trial with this book, but, for the 2 or 3 tutorials that use SAS / SAS datasets, you can use those datasets if you have access to a copy of SAS, or you can use Dell Statistica and open these SAS files into a Statistica file and attempt to follow the tutorial using Dell Statistica predictive analytic procedures.
