Table 5 Notes : Douglas and Boeing (Douglas Products Division) Aircraft

McDonnell Douglas Corporation was formed by the merger of two well established aircraft companies with a long and successful history in civil aircraft manufacture and sales. It recently merged with the Boeing Civil Airplane Company and McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft is now referred as the Douglas Products Division within BCAG. The Douglas DC8 aircraft is a contemporary of the B707 and is no longer manufactured although there are still several in operation. The DC9 was designed at the same time as the B737 and to a similar specification (twin engined short to medium range feeder liner). Development of the aircraft led to the stretched version known as the DC9 'Super 80'. This was renamed as the MD80 series with various payload range options built around a common fuselage cross section.
