Chapter 4.5: The Amazon Rain Forests

The Amazon’s tropical rainforest has been called the “lungs of the world.” In addition to providing habitat for an amazing array of plants and animals, the rainforest is so immense that it has an important influence on the region’s weather as well as the global climate.  Because of this influence, the condition of the Amazon is directly linked to the health of the planet.  Unfortunately, this rainforest has been disappearing, and it continues to be threatened by a wide variety of human activities.
